G-Wizz Celebrates it's 10th Birthday in 2003
It seems hard to believe that it is 10 years since the first exhibition display layout was built at the Lytham St Annes Railway Exhibition in 1993. Time really does fly when you are enjoying yourself. And yes, generally, we have enjoyed ourselves.
Since 1993, the exhibit has evolved from the labour-intensive real garden built in a day, to the current easy to move display that is on show in 2003. That of course, is the benefit of experience. We have learnt much on the construction of easy to move parts, together with simple to install (and fix) wiring. Seeing the layout, it may be hard to believe that it all runs on one 13 Amp plug, but it really does with the only thing that gets hot enough to cook an egg is the Power Controller (but that is usually when David is trying to run 3 trains at once and one is Frank's twin motored Mallet).
If you have seen the display, you will have noticed that there is usually a theme, be it Alice, Teddy Bear's picnic, etc. These have usually been developed from an initial idea that has usually seems absolutely crazy, but with some work that Wallace (of Wallace & Gromit© fame) would be proud of, an unusual display has been produced.
Over the years, the group has evolved to the point where, as well as attending up to ten exhibitions a year, we now produce our own exhibitions, one in October and a fun one for charity in December. In 2001/2002, we raised over £500 for Trinity Hospice in Blackpool, and in 2003,we hope to be supporting the North West Air Ambulance (based at Blackpool Airport).
If you are in the Fylde area when our exhibitions are open, please do visit them, after all you will also be helping us to support the North West Air Ambulance (and as we never know what is around the next corner - you never know if you may need it one day).
