G Scale is the scale of 1:22.5 or for every 22.5 ft in full scale, the distance is reproduced as 1 ft in G Scale. The rails are spaced 45 mm apart (the same as gauge 1, but to a heavier profile). The German firm of Lehmann started G Scale in the 1960's, with their trade name of LGB, and such has been their sucess that many other manufacturers have entered the scene, including Playmobil in Germany and Bachmann and REA in the USA.
The G Scale Society was founded in 1987 and has many thousands of members worldwide. For more information about the Society click on their logo below. Informal local area groups exist so that members can meet other members, share information and operate their rolling stock on other lines. The Society also holds an annual convention which features trade stands, layouts, etc.
There are many other Societies nationally, and internationally, who cater for the garden railway and G scale enthusiast. As they are found, links will be placed in the Associated Links page. If you are a member of such a society, of know of a Web Site that you think we should have a link to, please e-mail us and tell us.
